The Minister of Culture and Media in the Montenegro Government PhD Tamara Vujović [TummarahVuyovich], who recently took over managing of the department, was on a working visit to the Montenegro Library for Persons with Visual Impairments in Podgorica.
On that occasion she stated that the Ministry would support the Library’s suggestion for the budget increase, as well as their initiative to rename that institution and expand its spatial capacities. The Minister visited the Library so as to learn about its work, its achievements, results, as well as the challenges it was facing.
Vujović pointed out that her mission was to increase the overall budget for the culture and media and that she would, “based on the argumentatively expressed needs”, submit the request to the Minister of Finances and distribute the allocated funds fairly.
The Library Director MA Božidar Denda [BozhidahrDairnda] said that one of the key challenges for them was the space in which the institution had been placed for 17 years. He pointed out that renting the space makes a financial burden for the Library and suggested finding an appropriate cadaster parcel of minimum one thousand square meters for building of a new facility upon the librarian standards.
The Director introduced the Minister with the initiative to amend the Law on the Librarian Activity in a way that included erasing the stigmatising words from the very name of the institution.
“The new title for the Library would be »the Library of Accessible Formats«, and would carry the name of a respected Montenegrin writer and scientist MA Vojislav MinićVoyeeslavMinich], which would make acknowledgement and satisfaction to all the employees in that institution”, said Denda.
In addition to the initiative on the change of the Library’s name, there was suggested an increase of budget funds for 20% for the on-going year against the previous one.
