Our Library’s delegation visited the Italian Union of Blind and Partially Sighted People ONLUS, where Pietro Vecchiarelli, a representative of the Institution, introduced them to the work of ONLUS and the process of making tactile publications. During the presentation, Mr. Vecchiarelli pointed out that ONLUS has been engaged in this demanding and complex process for 20 years, during which they have produced close to 1,000 titles, with an average of 80 new publications per year.
The guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with various examples of tactile publications, as well as with the devices and materials used in their production. According to Mr. Vecchiarelli, the publications are intended for children of all ages, from preschool to college, but also for children and youth without disabilities. Publications offer multimedia content that encourages joint reading and education in a family and friendly environment, contributing to socialization through learning and reading.
The library has expressed its interest in launching programs that would enable education and capacity building for the production of tactile publications. It is planned to include training for the creation of conceptual and technical solutions for their production, as well as the organization of training programs for children, youth and adults for their use.
The visit marked an important step towards the development of new inclusive initiatives in Montenegro, based on the rich experience of the ONLUS Federation in Rome.
