We are proud to inform the public that the joint project of the Historical Institute of Montenegro and our Library has been awarded the prestigious recognition of the Council of Europe for the most beautiful story of the European Heritage Days (EHD).
Our project “Architecture at Your Fingertips – An Accessible lexicon of Montenegro” is recognized as one of the best examples of promoting inclusive cultural heritage in Europe and will be supported by a grant in the amount of 10,000 euros.
This recognition is a great honour for us, but also an incentive to continue developing innovative and socially responsible programmes in the field of culture, education and accessibility. This is the second award of the Council of Europe for The Montenegro Library for Persons with Visual Impairments in the last five years, which is an exceptional result at the European level. Special credit for this great success of the Library belongs to our project team led by colleague Ivana Krstajić [Ivana Krstayich]. In addition, we would like to express our gratitude to the Historical Institute of Montenegro, led by the director, prof. Radenko Šćekić [Ruddenkor Schtchekich], PhD, who showed sensitivity and full support for establishing cooperation in the realization of such important activities not only for the users of our Library, but for the widest circle of citizens and the overall culture of Montenegro.
Within the project, there are activities that will bring the architectural heritage of Montenegro closer to people with visual impairments through multi-sensory tools such as:
writing and publishing the first lexicon of the architectural heritage of Montenegro, fully adapted to people with visual impairments,
creation of tactile maps of key architectural sites,
organizing workshops, lectures and education for the general public and cultural workers.
