Our Library, in cooperation with Nacionalna biblioteka Crne Gore Đurđe Crnojević [Natsionalna beeblyoteka Tserne Gore Dyoordye Tsernoyevich] (National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”), organized the promotion of the monograph “The First Library of Accessible Formats in Montenegro 2006-2026” at the National Library in Cetinje on May 27. by Aleksandar Ćuković [Alexandahr Chookovich], MA. This event is part of the official program of the Ministry of Culture and Media, with which cultural institutions mark the jubilee – 20 years since the restoration of the independence of Montenegro, but it is also an indicator of the significant cooperation of the two national libraries in the year of another two-decade jubilee – 20 years since the founding of The Library of Accessible Formats of Montenegro “Vojislav Minić” [Voyislav Mineech].
The monograph was spoken about by Dobrila Vlahović [Dobrila Vlahovich], MA, Director General of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Media, Suzana Marjanović [Soozana Maryanovich], Librarian of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” [Dyoordye Tsernoyevich], who moderated the promotion, Zdravko Vukčević [Zdravko Vookchevich], PhD, President of the Council of our Library, and Božidar Denda [Bozhidar Dairnda], MA, Director of our Library.
According to the librarian Suzana Marjanović [Soozana Maryanovich], the library should be seen as a special universe, which allows the reader to acquire the necessary knowledge, but also to broaden horizons and establish a personal dialogue with the world of new knowledge, experiences and imagination.
“For persons with visual impairments and others who are unable to use standard printed materials, books play an important role in overcoming the limitations caused by vision loss, significantly enhancing their integration with others. At the same time, as for any reader, books can serve as a form of therapy and a window to the world.,” stated Marjanović.
The representative of the Ministry of Culture and Media, Dobrila Vlahović [Dobrila Vlahovich], MA, stated that this monograph is a documentary-analytical testimony of how a vision, started in 2006, transformed and progressed in its present form.
“In the monograph, we follow the path of how The Montenegro Library for the Persons with Visual Impairments grew into today’s public institution, The Library of Accessible Formats of Montenegro “Vojislav Minić” [Voyislav Mineech]. The monograph justifiably focuses on the amendments to the Law on Library Activities, which were adopted last year at the proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Media. With this legal solution, this institution was formally defined as the national library centre for accessible formats and the parent institution for this area in Montenegro, which is a great step forward that we achieved by amending that Act.” – Vlahović pointed out.
The president of the Library Council, Zdravko Vukčević [Zdravko Vookchevich], emphasized that twenty years is not a long period, but it is enough to see the successes and achievements of our Library. According to him, this publication, issued on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its establishment, speaks best of those successes.
As stated by the Director of our Library, Mr. Božidar Denda [Bozhidar Dairnda], MA, the promotion of this monograph provides an opportunity to examine the broader development of library services in Montenegro over the past two decades through the experience of a single institution.
“Modern librarianship today is developing under conditions of accelerated technological changes, new forms of content production and different ways of using library materials. Libraries are increasingly expanding their activities to digital processing of content, production of electronic publications, development of audio collections, management of metadata, as well as modern management and distribution of information. Such changes affect the way the library network is organized. The issue of library development today involves the professional connection of institutions, system compatibility, standardization of processing library materials” – stated the director.
