On the 4th and 5th November, our Library successfully implemented educational workshops titled “I listen, I read, I feel” at the Elementary School “Mirko Srzentić” [Meerko Sirzentitch] in Petrovac [Petrovats]. The workshops were held as part of the Second International Festival of Culture, Art, Heritage and Creative Industries, titled “Creative Fest Montenegro.”
Through a series of interactive sessions, children of all grades were presented with publications in braille and the braille alphabet in a unique way. The most interesting part was the practical part, where the students wrote their own name in braille on the moving board.
Publications in audio format also attracted special attention. The children had the opportunity to go on a special audio journey by listening to a recording of a publication from 1985 and comparing it with newer publications produced in 2025, thus witnessing the evolution of accessible formats.
The library also presented a part of its inclusive projects: “Beauty of Montenegro at Your Figertips” and “Museum for Everyone”, which are designed for people to experience the museum exhibits and buildings of Montenegro by touch.
One part of the workshop was dedicated to tactile social games. Children were especially interested in the game “Ludo”, which showed that games know no barriers.
At the end of the workshop, the children were very impressed. The success of the workshops is best evidenced by the reaction of students who approached our librarians in the hallway to hug them.
With this event, we once again confirmed the importance of promoting inclusiveness among young people, as well as the value of joint learning, understanding and support.
