Our Library decided to name its assembly hall in which it organizes cultural programs after Miličko Miketić [Milichko Mikketitch], a renowned literary creator, educator and advocate for human rights.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Miketić’s birth, on October 30th, 2025, our Library organized a literary evening, where the following spoke about the work of this poet: Prof. Olga Vojičić-Komatina [Olga Voyichich-Komatinar], PhD, professor at the Faculty of Philology in Nikšić; literary critic Aleksandar Ćuković [Aleksandar Chukovich], MA as well as our Library’s director, Božidar Denda [Bozhidar Dairnda], MA. Miketić’s verses were very expressively and impressively recited by ethnomusicology MA Nikola Zekić [Nikola Zekich].
The decision to declare the Hall “Miličko Miketić” was ceremoniously handed over to Miličko’s grandson, Siniša Miketić [Sinisha Mikketitch], who briefly spoke with warm words of gratitude on behalf of the numerous present grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members of the late Miličko Miketić. They participated with great gratitude in the ceremony that accompanied the literary program.
Miličko Miketić had an extremely rich life and professional experience. He was one of the post-war founders of The Berane [Beh-rah-neh] and Andrijevica [Andriyevitsa] Association for the Visually Impaired, and he worked professionally as an educator and administrator in the Centre for the Visually Impaired for Perast [Pehr-ast] and Risan [Riss-ahn], and later within the Association of the Visually Impaired of Montenegro in Cetinje [Tse-tin-yeh] and Podgorica [Podgoritsa]). His pedagogical experience was extremely significant, because he personally took care that every visually impaired child has the right to literacy, full access to education and life with the dignity of human integrity. In his tireless, decades-long work, he left behind a rich poetic and prose work, with more than 20 printed works.
In the following, we provide the full text of the decision on the naming of the ceremonial hall of our Library, which, as of yesterday, bears the name of Miličko Miketić.
