The agreement on cooperation between the Library of the Union of the Blind of Serbia “Dr. Milan Budimir” [Me’lan Boo-dee-meer] and our library was officially signed in Belgrade, in the premises of the host library, on Friday, October 24th, 2025. The goal of the agreement is the improvement and development of mutual cooperation in the field of library activities for the visually impaired, i.e. users of our libraries.
In addition, joint organization of cultural events and other activities is planned that will contribute to the development of interest in librarianship and the promotion of accessible literature. The agreement includes support for users in the selection and use of library materials and assistive technologies.
The ceremonial signing of this document has a special significance because it takes place in the pre-jubilee year (our institution will mark its jubilee in 2026) – two decades of work and existence.
In the same year, the Union of the Blind of Serbia (SSS) also celebrates a great jubilee – eight decades of existence and work, as well as 55 years of existence of the Library of the Union of the Blind of Serbia “Dr. Milan Budimir”, which is the oldest and largest library of accessible formats in the Balkans.
The signing of this Agreement symbolically confirms the long-standing friendship and cooperation between two institutions that share the same mission – to contribute to greater inclusion and equal opportunities for visually impaired people in Serbia and Montenegro through culture, knowledge and availability of information.
The agreement was signed by the president of SSS and Božidar Denda [Bozhidar Dairnda], MS, on behalf of the Podgorica Library, in the presence of Library employees and SSS professional service, led by Jelena Stojanović [Yeh-leh-nah Stoyahnovich], SSS secretary.
