The thirty ninth issue of the magazine “Tačke kulture” [tatchkeh kooltoureh] (Cultural Points), that our Library issues in braille, has just been released and distributed to the users in country and abroad.

We bring you the word of the editress as well as the overview of this issue’s contents:

INSTEAD OF THE WORD OF THE EDITRESS

“My friend opened one of the drawers that belonged to his wife, took out a rice paper wrap and said: ‘This is not whatever, this is something special.’

He unwrapped the package, tossed the paper away and then looked deeply into the selected silk and lace. She bought this when we first went to New York, about eight or nine years ago. She had never used it. She kept it for some ‘special occasion’.

‘Good…I think now is the right occasion for that’.

He came to the bed and laid the lingerie next to other wardrobe, the one she still has – on her funeral. …. His wife has died.

He turned to me and said: ‘Don’t ever keep anything form some special occasions, every day in your life is special’. I still think of his words…they changed my life. I read more and clean less.

I sit on the terrace, enjoy the landscape and do not mind the weeds in the garden.

I spend more time with my family, and less at work. I realised that, in essence, life is a whole filled with joys, and not a course for survival.

I do not keep anything anymore. I use my crystal glasses every day. I put on my new jacket when I go to the supermarket if I want.

I do not keep my best perfume for special going out. I use it every time I like.

Expressions…’someday’ and ‘one of these days’ disappeared from my vocabulary.

If something is worth seeing, listening or doing, then I want to see it, listen to it or do it NOW. I am not sure what my friend’s wife would do if only she had known she would not be here tomorrow.

I think she would be more in contact with her family, her closest friends. She might have called her old friends and beg them for forgiveness for some misunderstandings and made peace with them. I believe she would have gone to a Chinese restaurant. It was her favourite cuisine.

And it is precisely these undone little things would bother me if I knew my hours were numbered. It bothers me that I stopped meeting my good friends that I wanted to contact ‘someday’.

It bothers me that I do not write letters, that I meant to have written ‘one of these days’. It bothers me and makes me sad that I have not said to my parents, my siblings and children, more often how much I loved them. Now I am trying not to be late, not to stay on the side. Or keep something that can enrich our lives with laughter or happiness.

And every day, I tell myself that today is a special day…

Every day, every hour every minute…. is special.”
