Traditional book event, International Book Fair “Book Square” was held for the 15th time in Herceg Novi in the period from 21st-28th July 2017. Organizers, Secretariat for Culture of Herceg Novi Municipality and City Library and reading Room Herceg Novi, under the patronage of Herceg Novi Municipality and Tourist Organization of Herceg Novi, once again devised a quality and various programme. Our Library had its stand on the Fair this year, too.
Opening ceremony of the “Book Square” was dedicated to the jubilee of 170 years of publishing the first edition of the Mountain Wreath in Vienna in 1847. The fair was opened by the speech of PhD Sonja Tomović Šundić “Reading Is Living One More Life”. After that, the lecture “Njegoš – Poet and Thinker” was held.
In the course of eight days of the Fair, admirers of literature had a possibility, in one place, the Square of Herceg Stjepan (pronunciation: stee-ephan) (Bella Vista), to observe the on-going publishing production, enrich their private collections with new titles, and attend presentations of books of different genres and topics, with a quality accompanying programme of music and drama.
Beside the renowned publishing houses from Montenegro and surrounding countries, there have also exibited distributers, antique dealers, and the Montenegro State Lending Library – 35 exhibitors in total.
The closing evening of the 15th International Book Fair “Book Square” was opened by Nikola Nikolić and Jelena Krsmanović, literary critic, by presenting the new Nikolić’s book Atacama.
The second part of the programme was dedicated to the poetry of Božidar Bobo Denda, who dedicated the title of his collection of poems to his town of birth - To One Memento on Herceg Novi. Beside the author, literary critic Vlatko Simunović talked about the book.
The 15th International Book Fair “Book Square” ended with the awards of plaques for the publisher enterprise of the year, the best edition, the most beautiful book, and the most beautiful book for children. The event was held this year under the moto “Reading Is Living One More Life”.
Three-party jury in composition: PhD Ratko Božović, MSc Đorđe Malavrazić, and Voislav Bulatović awarded the plaques for the publisher enterprise of the year to the publishers “Obodsko slovo”, Podgorica and “Štampar Makarije”, Belgrade for the book Vojo Stanić: slike-paintings, which was arranged by Niko Martinović.
For the best edition, there was announced “Horizons” by the publisher “Akademska knjiga”, Novi Sad. The jurors stated that “the books published in the edition Horizons were those of literary-research and theoretical character, whereby they belong to the category of highly intellectual creativity, which is under nurtured and poorly with us”. According to the assessment of the Jury, the plaque for the most beautiful book was earned by the publisher “Geopoetika”, Belgrade for the book Letters of Note: Correspondence Deserving of a Wider Audience by Sean Usher.
For the book of the year for children, there was announced the book A Crocodile Singing by Vesna Aleksić published by “Kreativni centar”, Belgrade.
The 15th International Book Fair “Book Square” 2017. closed with the concert of the group Boka Band from Herceg Novi.
