About the book:
Born in a family of an industrial of Chinese descent, Daisy Kwok moves to Shanghai where, in the first decades of the 20th century, she lives an easy life of a “princess” of one of the richest families of that big Chinese city.
Along with the culture revolution lead by Mao Tse Tung, Daisy becomes one of the victims of that horrible purge in the Chinese communist society. The hard work in the camps for "re-education of capitalists", daily harassment, exhaustion to the extremes, life in poverty, hunger, misery mark her life for two decades. Despite all that, physically weak, yet spiritually unbelievably strong, Daisy manages to survive with pride and dignity.
